Sign up to help at Wave the Wheat
~ - Wednesday, June 25, 2008
The Wave the Wheat meet is coming up fast! Please choose your volunteer positions today.

Wave the Wheat is Thursday - Sunday, July 10 - 13. We need lots of help for our BIG meet of the year, so please volunteer for multiple jobs and/or sessions. We need around 40 people to help at each session, and we have 8 sessions! That's BIG! :)

Remember that if you are unavailable to work the weekend, please contact Angie or Jim Evers (acevers@sunflower.com, 865-1662) ASAP to make other arrangements (necessary to avoid the $50 fine).

We still need help in many areas, including these:
  • Apparel & Heat Sheet Sales - sell t-shirts and heat sheets.
  • Hospitality - help with serving food & drinks to coaches and officials.
  • Announcing - on-the-job training available
  • Awards - label and sort medals.
  • Timers - we need 20 timers for each session! Timing is so easy to learn, and these are the best seats in the house.
  • Setup & Breakdown - many hands make the work go faster.

Again, please consider volunteering for more than one session. We need you!

The best way to sign up is online on the Worker Selection page (select "2008 Wave the Wheat Meet"). If you have any questions on how to use the online sign-ups, please contact the Evers (acevers@sunflower.com, 865-1662).

Thank you to those who are already signed up. Great job!

Air Cap Swim Meet Update
. - Monday, May 19, 2008
Due to the lack of participants that want to travel as a team to the Air Cap Swim Meet in Wichita at the end of June, we will no longer be traveling to this meet as a team.  The team will still plan on attending the meet, but just not as a team travel.  The Air Cap meet will now be an "on your own" meet.

Volunteer News
.
Calling all Members! We will need everyone to chip in to help with our two meets this summer.  The IMX meet is June 14 and 15 and Wave the Wheat, the meet which keeps us solvent, is July 10-13.  Unfortunately, we have had some problems getting volunteers recently, thus, we have reluctantly opted for mandatory assistance from members.  We will have sign up sheets at the banquet which is May 5 from 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.  We will also have this web site set up so that you can sign up electronically.

With enough help from all we will be able to accommodate schedules.  We understand that sometimes other obligations prevent members from attending some or all of our meets.  However, we have some things that need to be done before the meet, some of which (like phone calls) can be done before the meet.

The bad news is that we must require each member to sign up for some job at each meet.  If a member fails to sign up, the member will be assigned a job no later than a week before the meet.  If the member has signed up or has been assigned a job but cannot fulfill the obligation, the member needs to find a substitute.  Please contact any Board member if this problem arises.  Otherwise, failure to fulfill the assignment will result in a $50 penalty which must be paid before the swimmer can enter another meet.

We really hate going the penalty route and have avoided it for many years, unlike the other clubs in the Missouri Valley.  Unfortunately, our club is not large enough that we can afford to have some members opt out of helping at meets. We hope  we never have  to use this rule.

If we all chip in, we will need to do just a little bit.  Thanks!
